The registration in the commercial register (Handelsregister) is the official completion of your company formation. Until then, your business is considered “in formation.” Once the registration is finalized, your company is officially incorporated. The time it takes for this registration depends on the local authorities and can vary by region.

Notary fees

• If founding sole proprietorships and small teams: approx. €200
• If founding companies with multiple founders: approx. €800
• Additional costs may incur for translations (for international clients) or permits.

Public administrative charges

• Business register listing (Handelsregistereintrag): approx. €200
• Business license (Gewerbeanmeldung): €20–60, varying by city
• Transparency register listing (Eintrag ins Transparenzregister): approx. €5/year
• For special types of businesses with specific permits, higher fees may arise.

If you have an eID, you can conveniently conduct your notary appointment online via a video call. Alternatively, it can be done in person. English translation for your notary appointment is also available.

Important note for international/English-speaking founders:

At the moment, most notary appointments are conducted in German. English-speaking founders may experience longer waiting times, may need to travel further for in-person appointments, and could incur additional costs at the notary and for our service. We are already working on a solution to make the process easier and faster for English-speaking clients in the near future.
