Can I start a business with Qonto?

Qonto is currently available for company founders and entrepreneurs in Germany, France, Spain and Italy.

With Qonto, you can open a business account for the company you're creating.

Please note that Qonto does not accept certain corporate activities.

How do I transfer the share capital to my Qonto account?

Once we’ve verified the details of your company (and its other shareholders, if applicable), you will be invited by email to deposit your share capital contribution. You’ll receive a temporary IBAN for this very purpose, which you can use to deposit your share capital via a SEPA transfer to your Qonto account.

Please note the following information regarding the deposit of share capital:

  • If the share capital contribution is made by several shareholders, they must each pay in their share capital contribution individually.
  • The respective capital contribution must be transferred from an account held in the name of the stated shareholder.

As soon as we receive your deposit, we will verify it and provide you with a capital deposit certificate within 12 hours so you can complete the registration of your company. You can track the status of your share capital deposit at any time via the Qonto app. 

Which documents will I need to open an account?

To open an account, you'll need to provide the following documents:

  • a copy of a valid ID of all company associates,
  • your company statutes,
  • proof of the company's registered address dated within the last 3 months.

Is Qonto a bank?

Qonto is not a bank but rather a payment institution supervised by the Banque de France (under the number CIB 16958). We enable companies (existing ones or those in the process of being registered) to benefit from a payment account and all the means of payment necessary for the smooth running of their business (physical and virtual cards, direct debits, international transfers, cheque deposits).


As a regulated payment institution, all our customers’ funds are secured. The funds deposited in your Qonto account are totally separate from Qonto’s treasury.


The funds are partly “segregated” in the books of Crédit Mutuel Arkéa. The other part is invested in qualified money market funds, the units of which are held in the books of Société Générale in accordance with our legal and regulatory obligations.


This means that no one but you has access to your money. Neither Qonto nor anyone else can use or invest your company’s money.

Why does Qonto perform a regulatory check?

In compliance with the requirements of the Monetary and Financial code, Qonto needs to collect and review specific information about:

  • the company you are opening a current account for,
  • the individuals using your company's Qonto account

While we are proceeding with legal verifications, you have access to your Qonto account. However, restrictions apply until your company identity is confirmed:


  • You can create cards but you will only be able to use them after the validation of your information. 
  • You can initiate transfers but they won't be completed until we confirm your identity.

What are my company statutes?

Your company statutes, or bylaws, contain all the important information about your new company:

  • its corporate name (the name of your company),
  • the legal form,
  • the registered office address,
  • the amount of share capital,
  • the contributions of each partner or shareholder,
  • the corporate purpose (summary of the company's main activities*),
  • the life span of the company.
