What is a Business Developer ?
A Business Developer’s job is to help increase the company’s profitability and make it more successful. They identify and leverage opportunities in the market by:
✓ Persuading new clients;
✓ Building partnerships;
✓ Launching products and services that match users’ needs.
Business Developers would assert that their job is to define and execute the company’s business strategy. Positioned at the heart of the Growth, Sales, Marketing and Communication team, their work consists of:
✓ Examining the company’s needs and conducting detailed market research;
✓ Creating a formal business plan and transmitting it internally;
✓ Leading negotiations in order to sign new contracts;
✓ Guiding the execution of the plan;
✓ Building a loyal client base.
As you may have surmised, a Business Developer must have a variety of skills in order to do their job well and grow the business, such as: creative thinking, predicting opportunity, being a good listener, being an effective communicator, etc.
What is the role of a Project Manager ?
A Project Manager is the one who coordinates the Growth, Sales, Marketing & Communication team throughout the development of a new project within the company.
This is primarily the reason why they must have managerial skills along with their professional qualifications to best handle the team. That way, the project runs on-time and on-budget.
Not only do Project Managers study the needs of users through market analyses, but they leverage their experience to further develop features that improve the final product.
The main tasks a Project Manager undertakes are:
✓ Drawing up specs;
✓ Fleshing out a budget;
✓ Identifying the risks and challenges of the project;
✓ Creating and coordinating timelines for each contributor;
✓ Supervising the progress of the project;
✓ Running tests;
✓ Building teams to oversee the new product lifecycle or help customers use the product.
What is the role of an SEO Manager ?
The SEO Manager - or SEO Consultant - works within the Growth, Sales, Marketing & Communication team and optimizes both the company’s website and its applications’ indexing on internet search engines.
These days, everyone understands how vital it is to show up on the first page of a web search, if only to gain visibility and direct more traffic to a site.
The SEO Manager supports this traffic by:
✓ Performing technical audits of the website;
✓ Studying the ranking of certain keywords;
✓ Analyzing competitors to gain insight on their placement in the search results;
✓ Optimizing the layout of existing content to support organic referencing;
✓ Following changes in result page position and overall site traffic using WebAnalytics tools like Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager.
Natural referencing demands a great deal of organizational skill and determination for it to bear its fruits. These qualities are must-haves for an SEO Manager to be effective, and having good communication with the Marketing, Tech and Editorial teams yields better results (pun intended!).
What is the role of a Partnership Manager ?
The Partnership Manager is central to the Growth, Sales, Marketing & Communication team. Very much like a Project Manager, their goals is to offer solutions that help solve customers’ problems.
However, instead of developing a product or internal service, they cultivate commercial relationships with other companies to solve these problems.
For these relationships to last long-term, they have to be mutually beneficial: they can help widen one’s audience, make up for certain weak points or gain access to tried-and-true products and services, for example.
But it doesn’t end there. Partnership Managers don’t just find partners, negotiate, and sign contracts, but they
✓ Make sure to keep an eye on the competition;
✓ Work their network to seek out valuable partnerships;
✓ Inspect the KPIs of each deal and renegotiate terms, if necessary.
What is a Paid Search Manager ?
The Paid Search Manager plays an important role in the Growth, Sales, Marketing & Communication department, by working to bring in more new customers online.
They’re given a set budget to create a paid search campaign on the main search engines in order to place the company at the top of the results and therefore attract prospective customers.
Apart from optimizing said campaigns, the Paid Search Manager regularly runs tests (A/B testing, adding or subtracting keywords, etc.) to improve ROI. They work closely with Designers, Data Analysts and Digital Analysts to get an edge over competitors.
Not only does an effective Paid Search Manager have to have an excellent grasp of Google Ads and Bing Ads, but they’re also expected to have a good understanding of digital marketing, such as:
✓ Search Engine Optimization (SEO);
✓ Search Engine Marketing (SEM);
✓ Pay per click (PPC);
✓ Return on investment (ROI);
✓ Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
